Christian Prayer: The Prayer of Agreement, Corporate Prayer

Matthew 18:18-20, talks about “two or more being gathered in” Jesus name. Jesus promised that he would be “in the midst” or present during that time. Gathered together in my name is not only talking about church service, it's talking about gathering together in prayer and agreement in His Name. Believers need to agree and to establish what they're in agreement for. We need to agree in faith about world situations, church growth, and deliverance for our brothers and sister from oppression, among other things. We need to be in agreement not compromise, not tolerance, but agreement.

Agreement is not diplomacy it is a command. We must agree together in order to obey this command and effectively pray this prayer. Agreement is essential to getting things done in the body of Christ. We must agree with God's word. Totally, unwaveringly trust God's word. Agreement is gathering in heartfelt revelation knowledge of what the word means, and surrendering our ideas for His. 1 John 3 tells us that true fellowship or agreement is in the Father. It's not talking about meeting together and enjoying each other, it's talking about agreeing together with the Father and His word.

We need to give ourselves to complete agreement with the word. Don't compromise agreement with God's Word, it's precious. Staying in agreement with the word means not only believing what He said but with what He's done. He's already healed you, saved you, set you free, etc. You have not believed, come into agreement with the word, until you act on it. Faith is a force in your spirit, a substance the word says, believing is when you act on that force; allowing that force, faith, to propel your actions in a designated direction to obtain the result of that which you are seeking to obtain, by faith. Every Christian has faith, but not everyone believes, acting on that faith.

The prayer of agreement is faith in action. †In Luke, 5:20 letting the paralyzed man in through the roof was an example of faith in action. Matthew 9:20-22 is another example of faith in action. James 2:17, 19-20, 26,” faith without works is dead.” The amplified says faith without works of obedience is dead. We need to plant our faith in actions to bring forth a harvest. It's not enough to have faith within yourselves and know who you are; you have to put that faith out into this world, plant it and bring forth fruit, or its dead faith. We were not called to be alone we were called as a body to be in agreement with God's Word. That brings forth fruit! See Acts 16:5.

Deuteronomy 32:30 “one puts to flight 1,000 and two, 10,000.” We need each other. Agreement and united prayer is setting your faith on a designated mark together.

The prayer of agreement cannot be prayed for unspoken requests because both parties must be in agreement, and if one doesn't know what the other wants, they can't agree prayer of agreement can be prayed with any other kind of prayer. When prayed with the prayer of faith, like the prayer of faith, the answer is in the word. When prayed with the prayer of binding and loosing, all praying must know their authority and be in agreement with the Word of God on what they're praying.

The prayer of agreement will not work unless everyone is in agreement on the Word of God as it pertains to the petition, in faith. The power that provides your answer comes from the Father in Heaven. The Word says that when you pray the prayer of agreement, meeting the conditions, it will be done for you. You must have some personal knowledge, an inner revelation on how this prayer works; what the Word says about His Will in answering prayer, and who your God is, before this prayer will work.

Like all other prayer, if you make it an empty formula you rob it of its power because you rob it of its authority. Because God's Word works, and the principals of the word will work for everyone, you may stumble into an answer here and there even while praying empty formula; but that's dead works, that's not relationship, that's not communion with the Father through the Son, that's not covenant prayer, that's not going to help you grow or profit you anything (even if you get the material thing), and most important that's not right attitude and God is interested in the attitude of your heart most of all, not your dead works.

Even "good" works can be dead works when the motives and attitudes behind them are wrong. Prayer was not designed to get you what you want or to let you have your own way about things. It was designed to enable you to commune with the Father and to do His Will here on Earth. However, because His Will includes your health, growth, happiness, prosperity, and blessing, you will, in addition to effecting His will, be blessed yourself. But, that should not be your uppermost motive. If it is, you're praying amiss and using a formula.

So united prayer, or prayer of Agreement, simply means a number of believers united together in one place and in agreement with God's word on a particular matter. They must be in agreement not only with the request, but with the fact that God wants to, will, or already has done it also, depending on the nature of the request.

†Some examples of united prayer can be found in the book of Acts, see Acts 1:14, Acts 4:23 through 31, Acts 13:1-4, Acts 16:25-30, Acts 20:36-38.†
